Press TV<\/a> reports.<\/p>\nIn his call with Gerapetritis, Araghchi criticised the EU\u2019s \u201chypocritical\u201d approach to human rights. He pointed to the support provided by some European countries to Israel and what he described as their indifference to the killing of Palestinians and war crimes in Lebanon and Iran.<\/p>\n
Araghchi rejected recent EU statements alleging human rights violations in Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe European Union, due to its performance in the field of human rights, has no moral standing to lecture others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He made a similar argument in his conversation with Meinl-Reisinger, denouncing what he termed the EU\u2019s passive position towards Israel and the broad support provided by some European countries for the \u201coccupiers of Palestinian lands\u201d.<\/p>\n
Araghchi said European policies were contributing to the continuation of what he referred to as Israel\u2019s occupation and genocide in the Palestinian territories. He called on the EU to reconsider its approach to developments in West Asia.<\/p>\n
He also condemned what he called the EU\u2019s \u201cinterventionist\u201d stance towards Iran and its support for anti-Iran terrorist elements.<\/p>\n
The criticism comes after the European Union and several other countries, including Canada, issued a joint statement criticising the use of capital punishment against foreign-linked rioters in Iran.<\/p>\n
The two calls also focused on regional security and the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Araghchi said Iran and Oman were holding discussions on mechanisms for managing future navigation through the strategic waterway and determining safe passage routes for ships.<\/p>\n
He noted that the current insecurity in the strait was the result of what he described as \u201cillegal aggression\u201d by the United States and Israel against Iran.<\/p>\n
Araghchi said Iran had entered the diplomatic process in good faith and that an understanding to end the war had been signed on 18 June, referring to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He accused Washington of violating the MoU, imposing a maritime blockade on Iran and carrying out attacks against military and civilian targets, thereby heightening tensions and insecurity around the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
In his call with Gerapetritis, Araghchi stressed Iran\u2019s determination to defend its national interests and security.<\/p>\n
The Greek foreign minister expressed support for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and offered Greece\u2019s technical and expert assistance.<\/p>\n
Meinl-Reisinger, meanwhile, stressed the importance of restoring stability and security in the region and returning to normal conditions through diplomatic solutions.<\/p>\n
The Iranian and European ministers also agreed to continue consultations and work to preserve their longstanding bilateral relations.<\/p>\n
