Europe\u2019s startup landscape is quietly undergoing a shift that feels less like a trend and more like a structural reset.\u00a0<\/p>\n The days of fintech platforms, marketplaces, and apps dominating the venture capital narrative appear to be fading as the industry focuses on a more complicated and potentially more impactful landscape.\u00a0<\/p>\n Deep technologies like robotics, quantum computing, semiconductors, autonomous systems and advanced manufacturing are attracting investors. Though they require longer to develop, these innovations could revolutionize whole industries and define the economic future of Europe.<\/p>\n Policymakers are driving this shift, hailing deep tech as a path to greater technological resilience and competitiveness.<\/p>\n The European Innovation Council<\/a> (EIC) is one of the biggest catalysts behind the change. Its 2026 Impact Report indicates that EIC-supported companies have collectively raised \u20ac15.5 billion, resulting in three deep-tech unicorns generated in the last year and 12 equity rounds valued at over \u20ac100 million. The figures indicate Europe is moving forward with one of its longstanding challenges: scaling up successful scientific research into business.\u00a0<\/p>\n Examples of applications for quantum computing are already starting to materialize. The company chosen for EIC Scale Up investment was Finland-based IQM Quantum Computers, which is developing superconducting quantum processors. The EIC\u2019s programme provides investments from \u20ac10 million to \u20ac30 million to individual companies to facilitate significantly larger private funding rounds.<\/p>\n
