The French National Assembly has adopted a resolution on Georgia criticising what it describes as the country\u2019s \u201cauthoritarian course\u201d and reaffirming support for its long-term European integration.<\/p>\n
The Assembly said <\/a>the document proposes suspending Georgia\u2019s accession process to the European Union until certain political conditions are met, including the holding of free and fair elections. It also calls for increased support for civil society groups and the introduction of targeted individual sanctions, Caliber.Az <\/a>reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n The resolution further alleges that \u201cGeorgia is being used as a \u2018platform to circumvent international sanctions against Russia,\u2019 and calls on the EU to take this circumvention into account when preparing the next package of sanctions.\u201d<\/p>\n While the measure was adopted by lawmakers in the National Assembly, it is not legally binding.
