At the same time, the EU\u2019s <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Gross_domestic_product_(GDP)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gross domestic product<\/a> (GDP) increased by 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with the previous quarter of 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">This information comes from <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/view\/env_ac_aigg_q\/default\/table?lang=en&amp;category=env.env_air.env_air_aa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data on seasonally adjusted quarterly estimates of greenhouse gas emissions by economic activity<\/a> published by Eurostat today. Quarterly estimates of greenhouse gas emissions complement quarterly socio-economic data, such as GDP or employment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">This article presents the key findings from the more detailed <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Quarterly_greenhouse_gas_emissions_in_the_EU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Statistics Explained article on quarterly greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">The economic sectors with the largest increases in greenhouse gas emissions were electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+7.2%), transportation and storage (+1.3%) and mining and quarrying (+0.9%), while households (-2.0%) and manufacturing (-0.1%) recorded a decrease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/documents\/d\/products-eurostat-news\/ghg-accounts_q4_2025_1920px-003-\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Greenhouse gas emissions by the economy and GDP in the EU, Q4 2022 - Q4 2025. Bar and line chart - Click below to see full dataset.\" data-fileentryid=\"23678626\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/europe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GHG accounts_Q4_2025_1920px (003).jpg\" width=\"700\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-align-center ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Source datasets: <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/bookmark\/f3b04055-e521-4db8-a3d0-6f9197cf477f?lang=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">env_ac_aigg_q<\/a> and <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/bookmark\/e6669993-c5a7-48ea-8549-1fa91699f5a6?lang=en&amp;createdAt=2025-11-05T15:42:30Z\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">namq_10_gdp<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, seasonally adjusted emissions went up by 0.4%, while the EU\u2019s seasonally and calendar adjusted GDP increased by 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Greenhouse gas emissions decreased in 7 EU countries\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In the fourth quarter of 2025, seasonally adjusted greenhouse gas emissions increased in 19 EU countries and decreased in 7 countries, while they were stable in Germany, compared with the third quarter of 2025.<br \/>The largest reductions in greenhouse gases were estimated for Finland (-3.2%), Malta (-2.0%) and Czechia (-0.6%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">All of the 7 EU countries that had estimated decreases in greenhouse gas emissions (Bulgaria, Czechia, Spain, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Finland) recorded an increase in GDP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/documents\/d\/products-eurostat-news\/ghg-accounts_q4_2025_1920px-copy-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Growth rates of greenhouse gas emissions by the economy and GDP, Q4 2025.
