{"id":44544,"date":"2026-05-16T16:53:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T16:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/europe\/44544\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T16:53:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T16:53:09","slug":"eu-reaffirms-support-for-nigerias-workforce-development-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/europe\/44544\/","title":{"rendered":"EU reaffirms support for Nigeria\u2019s workforce development initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Head of Section, Green and Digital Economy at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Inga Stefanowicz, has reaffirmed the European Union\u2019s commitment to supporting workforce development initiatives in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>She made this known at the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) 2.0 Employers\u2019 Forum held in Lagos on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Among dignitaries present at the event were Akubo Adegbe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Delivery and Coordination in the Office of the Vice President, alongside other government officials and development partners.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme is an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the forum, Stefanowicz expressed satisfaction in supporting initiatives that deliver measurable results for young people and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, platforms such as the NJFP not only help to tackle unemployment but also strengthen the foundation for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe European Union is proud to support initiatives like NJFP that deliver tangible results for young people and for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy equipping graduates with relevant skills and connecting them to real workplace opportunities, we are not only addressing unemployment, but we are also strengthening the foundations for sustainable economic growth.\u201d She said. <\/p>\n<p>Also Speaking, The UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Elsie Attafuah emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships in driving inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>Elsie said the presence of associations, financial institutions, technology firms, manufacturers, agribusinesses, and innovation ecosystem actors here sends a strong signal that workforce transformation is increasingly being recognized as a shared national responsibility and a shared economic opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Employers\u2019 Forum is therefore important not only because of the commitments it seeks to mobilize for NJFP placements, but because it represents a broader platform for strengthening long-term partnership between talent development, enterprise growth, and economic transformation in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe participation of major employers, MSMEs, industry associations, financial institutions, technology firms, manufacturers, agribusinesses, and innovation ecosystem actors here today sends a strong signal that workforce transformation is increasingly being recognized as a shared national responsibility and a shared economic opportunity.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking later, The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was ably represented by Chairman, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas highlighted the government\u2019s commitment to youth employment and private sector collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the Union for its sustained funding, and commitment to Nigeria\u2019s socio-economic transformation. The Governor described the move as a direct investment in human capital powering the nation\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI commend the European Union for its sustained funding and its commitment to Nigeria\u2019s socio-economic transformation. I equally commend UNDP Nigeria for the excellence of its implementation and applaud every employer in this forum today.
