The decision is nearing completion and is expected to be announced before \u200bthe summer break, the paper said, adding it would \u200bbe the largest penalty the EU has imposed for a \u2060breach of its Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to curb \u200bthe power of big tech companies, News.az<\/a> reports, citing Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n The investigation, which was officially launched in \u200bMarch 2025, relates to concerns that Google favours its own services in search results and seeks to ensure the world’s most popular internet search \u200bengine complies with local regulation.<\/p>\n The Commission is more interested in securing compliance \u200brather than imposing penalties, spokesperson Thomas Regnier said in an emailed statement.<\/p>\n “Even with \u200cour \u2060negotiations on future solutions, we will not hesitate to move to the next steps as soon as possible,” he added.<\/p>\n Google has criticised the impact of the EU’s rules on its search \u200bproduct and said \u200bit is \u2060keen to resolve the case.<\/p>\n “The changes we’ve already made to Search under the DMA represent the \u200bbiggest downgrade in the product’s history, creating a \u200bsecond-rate experience \u2060for Europeans to the benefit of a few self-interested complainants,” a company spokesperson said.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, the European Commission said it had \u2060given \u200bGoogle a little bit more time to \u200bsoothe concerns after a previous proposal from the company fell short.<\/p>\n
