TURIN, May 29 (Reuters) – Stellantis has no significant plans to expand its recent partnerships with Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors \u200cto Europe, its Europe chief Emanuele Cappellano said on Friday.<\/p>\n
The \u200cautomaker last month announced a series of cooperation agreements under its new long-term strategy, including \u200bwith Jaguar Land Rover for the U.S. market and Tata Motors for India.<\/p>\n
Analysts have speculated the tie-ups could also support Stellantis in Europe, where it is still assessing technology options, including for larger vehicles.<\/p>\n
Cappellano said expanding the JLR \u200cand Tata joint ventures \u2060to Europe was not a priority.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t think to develop these JVs for the United States and India with \u2060Europe in mind,” he told a media conference in Turin, where he described the European aspects of the business plan Stellantis presented last week.<\/p>\n
“If there \u200bwere any \u200bbenefit to it \u2013 say, a product \u200bopportunity \u2013 we might well consider \u200cit, but at the moment it’s not our main focus”.<\/p>\n
Cappellano said earlier this week that Stellantis was studying options to underpin future large models of its European premium brand Alfa Romeo, either in-house or with a partner.<\/p>\n
Alfa Romeo plans to launch two new mid-sized models by 2030, but has \u200cwithdrawn firm dates for the new versions \u200bof its larger Giulia sport sedan and \u200bStelvio SUV.<\/p>\n
Cappellano said on Friday \u200bStellantis was also considering selling in Europe a niche, \u200clow-volume Jeep model to be made \u200bin China with \u200blocal partner Dongfeng.<\/p>\n
Stellantis and Dongfeng this month signed a $1.2 billion deal to produce Peugeot- and Jeep-branded vehicles in China, both for domestic \u200bsales and export.<\/p>\n
The two \u200ccompanies also announced plans for cooperation in Europe, including for manufacturing, \u200badding to Stellantis’ partnership with Chinese EV maker Leapmotor.<\/p>\n
