European Commission Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, recognised the region\u2019s contributions and future potential in semiconductor development in a recent meeting with representatives.<\/p>\n

Finland\u2019s Tampere region was recently celebrated for its strong ecosystem of research institutions, businesses and public-sector collaboration in driving Europe\u2019s semiconductor prowess.<\/p>\n

During a visit to Tampere, Virkkunen met with representatives from Tampere University, Business Tampere and the Tampere Chamber of Commerce to examine the region\u2019s semiconductor capabilities and discuss its role in advancing Europe\u2019s technological competitiveness.<\/p>\n

Virkkunen noted the area\u2019s pioneering expertise in areas such as:<\/p>\n

Chip design
\nPhotonics
\nIndustrial research and development
\nPilot manufacturing<\/p>\n

Europe\u2019s competitiveness and security rest on the the ability to produce its own strategic technologies and a strong industrial base, as Virkkunen emphasised, and the Tampere cluster is one such bastion of development.<\/p>\n

Collaboration is a key part of Tampere\u2019s success<\/p>\n

Virkkunen also acknowledged the contributions of Tampere University<\/a>, Business Tampere and the Tampere Chamber of Commerce in fostering collaboration and supporting the development of the region\u2019s semiconductor sector.<\/p>\n

Virkkunen said the region\u2019s success demonstrates how sustained cooperation between academia, industry and government can help build a competitive and resilient semiconductor ecosystem capable of supporting Europe\u2019s future technological needs.<\/p>\n
