For the first time since they were elected in 2024, members of the European Parliament (MEPs) representing the Ireland South constituency addressed Seanad \u00c9ireann on the general theme of Ireland\u2019s upcoming Presidency of the European Council.<\/p>\n

Each MEP addressed the chamber and outlined their work in Europe on behalf of their constituency and constituents. There were also opening statements from the spokespersons of the Seanad groups, followed by a question and answer session.<\/p>\n

The MEPs that attended the chamber were \u00a0Ms Kathleen Funchion, MEP; Mr. Billy Kelleher, MEP; Mr. Se\u00e1n Kelly, MEP; Mr. Michael McNamara, MEP and Ms Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa, MEP.<\/p>\n

Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Senator Mark Daly, welcomed the MEPs. He said:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the embodiment of that institution and our representatives there, it is very welcome, in this year of Ireland’s forthcoming Presidency of the European Union, that they participate in this engagement with the Seanad.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added<\/p>\n

\u201cEngagement with the European Union is an important role of Seanad \u00c9ireann. The annual attendance of our MEPs, especially with our upcoming Presidency of the EU, is more important than ever in showcasing the work of our MEPs.\u201d<\/p>\n
