When you’re used to privileges, having them revoked must feel like punishment.
Doing what is done for every third country entry = “punishment”. Right. And of course it was not by definition the known procedure – but the clever bunnies said ah EU needs us more than we need them so they will just let us in. With genius Brexit negotiators and “oven ready” deals we got here, exactly as expected. What a surprise.
I fly pretty often for work and I’ve never been stuck in passport control for more than 30 minutes. I did see huge queues for the EES machines a few weeks ago though so can imagine that anyone visiting for the first time since it came into effect might have a nasty wait.
It feels like a punishment but it is in fact a direct consequence of getting exactly what we asked for.
A punishment that applies to every country outside the EU, not just the UK. hell the UK don’t need a visa so they are better off than many countries.
The UK really wasn’t ready to be in such a weak negotiating position with the big boys lol

A vote for Brexit is a vote for red tape. This is the natural consequence. If you didn’t know that already, then self-educate before voting next time.
For context: I’m strongly pro-EU, and I travel to the EU a few times a month (I’ve already filled two passports since they started stamping British passports…)
The EU has got this Entry Exit System badly wrong. Not just the botched implementation having to be delayed more times than I can count. But fundamentally, the extra time needed at the border to complete their onerous biometric checks is not feasible and will result in delays even post the initial period.
I’ve seen the best run airports turn into chaos this year at passport control thanks to EES, and I can’t help but think this has been an own goal for EU.
They should have adopted the same system as UK and other countries have for e-gates and this would have all been avoided. Or if they insist on their biometric checks, at least mandate pre-registration via an app before boarding. I struggle to comprehend how the EES we’ve ended up with is so poorly thought through after so many years.
It’s not a punishment it’s what we knew would happen. We’re not part of the club anymore so we queue with everyone else.
We were a founding member, it’s laughable we threw it all away.
I’ve travelled 4 times from the UK to Europe this year. The longest wait I have had was about 25 mins. Where are these 4hr queues. Also the 25 mins wait was at Birmingham returning.
I’m starting to think I live in a world where loudmouthed fuckwits can somehow end up in charge of well known companies.
Travelled to Netherlands recently non EU country queue was few people compared to the EU queue so what’s he on about?
I love standing in them because I know those who still back Brexit have to suffer too. Brexit has cost me thousands of pounds, has jeopardised my career, and I hope they get longer and longer so Doris and Bill can suffer along with me.
The downside is that most of them have literally no idea why. I keep overhearing confusion when I’m stood in the queues. “Why can’t we go in that queue? Oh never mind, I hear they do a reet crackin full English at Bob’s Bar”
Rubbish. I fly through Schiphol, Frankfurt, Madrid, Rome, Munich, London all the time and the queues are all exactly the same, EU or non EU, and I have dual nationality, so passports don’t matter. They are all variations on the same shitshow, and what holds people up are the same ridiculous security checks ad nauseam and the same jumping through hoops. Travelling in general is just one long humiliation ritual these days, wherever you are .
And also Ryanair saying a technical plane issue then cancel your flight 4 hours later w*nkers they are
It’s more like we’re punishing ourselves by removing ourselves from the structure that enabled us to travel between EU countries easier.
Are the e-gates not enabled for UK passports? EU passport holders can use them in the UK.
