Yay at this rate I’ll be getting my state pension when I’m 110.
Haha, that’s a joke, there isn’t likely to be a state pension left by the time I retire.
Top tip: pretend you were never told, and then in 30 years time you can petition the government to compensate you for your own bad decisions.
The French almost burnt their cities to the ground over their retirement age rising from 62 to 64.
But we continue to accept this is just gonna go up for us
To claim the state pension yes, you can claim private from 56
I’m relaxed. Anyone sensible makes sure the state element of their pension represents a fairly small proportion of their total retirement income.
I’m going to get downvoted to oblivion
but, I am glad to see at least this is a step to decrease the relative size of the pension via working population. Every year the proportion of pensioners grows, it’s unsustainable especially with the tripple lock
State pension increases are fine for people with office jobs but folk who do manual labour definitely can’t go on in the same way.
I am 43.
In the very best case it’s going to be 70 for me. Or it’ll be cut to shreds and means tested by then.
So we keep older workers in jobs longer, while entry-level roles are already shrinking because of AI.
How does that not push youth unemployment up?
As a Gen Xer – someone who is 52 – it feels like I’ll never get the chance to retire as the boomers have ensured they can ring fence all the money, change the goal posts, and now the pensions are being put under inheritance tax, there’s a triple fuck you.
I’ll be able to afford to retire on Friday as long as I’m dead by Monday
This is actually really generous of the government, I mean presumably my government pension stays the same but I get to invest further into my workplace pension!!
At this point I just assume by the time I get there, I’ll die on the job, as it’ll be way beyond 67 in 30 years time, if even a thing at all.
So how much are we getting? I couldn’t be arsed to read it
Anyone born after 1998 won’t be getting a state pension.
The sooner everyone realises it, the better tbh.
This affects me. People complaining about it astonishes me. Because of the welfare state we are all living a lot longer and being a lot fitter in those later years. . Therefore we get the pension for longer. The slight disadvantage is retiring up to 2 years later.
Perhaps it would be better if we died at 68 like we used to. Then we could retire at 65.
