As a Czech, I’ve always felt a quiet sense of familiarity with Finland. Finland is my favorite Nordic country. I admire your mentality, advanced education system, hockey, and your successful video game industry — Max Payne is my favorite game ever.

I also like the small cultural details, like children’s train cars featuring the Czech character Little Mole. And of course, there’s your history — how you bravely defended yourselves against the Soviet Union. We had our own “experience” with them too, for about 40 years.

I’ve always felt a small but genuine connection between Czechia and Finland. I think Czechs and Finns have a very similar relationship to nature. You have cottages by lakes, we have cottages in the forest.

Mentality-wise, we are small, quietly successful countries. Respect is not automatic — you have to earn it through performance.

I also see parallels in culture: the Moomins and Kafka. Simple at first glance, but deep once you look closer.

Then there’s hockey. We’re both small countries, yet very successful in the sport (you’re currently more successful in terms of NHL players).

We’re also both strong in video games. It’s fair to say you’re ahead, especially thanks to better support, while in our country there is almost no state support for game development.

Finnish games:
Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Hay Day, Hill Climb Racing, Cities: Skylines, Alan Wake, Control, Returnal, FlatOut, Max Payne, My Summer Car, Snake.

Czech games:
Mafia, Euro Truck Simulator, Arma, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Beat Saber, DayZ, Dead Trigger, Shadowgun, Factorio, Space Engineers, Vietcong, Gray Zone Warfare, Botanicula, Machinarium, Samorost, Hidden & Dangerous, Operation Flashpoint.

Just wanted to say: a lot of respect from Czechia. 🇫🇮💙🇨🇿

  1. Operation Flashpoint and map editor. Jaromir Jágr in Penguins. Coming to see people as Henry.

    Those were the times…

  2. Thank you for “O loupežníku Rumcajsovi” (I hope I got it right…)

  3. You forgot to mention love for beers. At least both countries know how to drink it a lot, and you guys know how to do it also.

  4. Reminds me that I need to play KCD 1 & 2 one of these days. Actually, I have own the first game on Steam but haven’t had the time to delve into it yet.

  5. Thank you very much for your kind words. Always great to hear your country and culture is appreciated abroad. You’ve been kicking ass yourselves in hockey, especially lately.

  6. I like Czechia a lot. My favorite is the cuisine (Svickova 5/5 dish) and beer culture around it. Pilsner Urquell directly from Tank is like a dream come true.

Haven’t been so much outside Prague but it’s a beautiful city, wish there was a train to the airport from the center though.

Mentally wise we are very fitting but in business context there are some differences. I’d say in business context we’re closer to Germans. Anyways very suitable!

    Your post made me happy

  7. **Myyrä**, *Krtek*, was big part of my childhood! One of my favourite cartoons ever.

  8. Czechia is one of my favorite places in Europe! I went to Prague twice and did a little road trip. Great beer and interesting history, sorry about the hakkapeliittas!

  9. When I visited Prague, I loved it. People were really nice and the city is amazing. Also Czech beer is imo best in the world. Can’t wait to visit again in the future.

  10. I’ve visited Praha (it’s the same in finnish 😛 ) and my experience is that people seemed to like me and I liked them back! Made a couple of nice connections there in just couple of days!

  11. I occasionally work with czechs, and I like their mentality and sense of humor a lot. There’s someting familiar about it that I cannot fully put into words, but I enjoy it nevertheless.
