I moved to this apartment in october of 2023, here one guy in the apartment was already paying for the Beitragservice. He suggested me I could as well pay along and use his Beitragsnummer. He also helped me(do sth. in rundfunk website which I don't remember). After that I didn't get any additional letter from Beitragservice so I assumed everything was fine. He moved out in July of 2025.
After that I was expecting post from Rundfunk so that I could register myself because I had nothing, I lost my old Aktenzeichen.
Fast forward to November of 2025, I got a new flatmate. She did her registration and everything and recently she got her Beitragsnummer. I tried to do Ummeldung for myself filling a form in Rundfunkswebsite with her Beitragsnummer. Then I got a reply that it cannot be changed and there is no Beitragnummer under my name.
I called Beitragservice to know the status of my Rundfunk contribution. My german level is B1 so I practiced beforehand what I needed to ask in german. After a long wait one lady picked the call. The first thing she asked was my Beitragsnummer. But I went on to explain the whole situation, she interrupted and asked again to which I gave her my old Beitragsnummer from the guy, she asked Date of Birth, I gave my details. She said it's false and to repeat the Beitragnummer again. Then I said it was probably under the name of the older resident and I only know his name and not the DOB. Then she arrogantly asked again what is my Beitragsnummer. I said I have non for now and trying to do the Ummeldung. She hang up the call leaving me helpless.
Now am I cooked? I am not sure how to proceed. Also not sure if I have to pay from the date when I first moved in here.
