I came across this comedy sketch from German comedians Florentine Osche and Yorick Thiede about Markus Söder im veganen Restaurant. Firstly, I absolutely fall to floor laughing, I find it funny to see two completely different types of people interacting. At the same time, it made me curious, because at one point "Markus" mentions veganism is Untergang bayerischer Leitkultur. How do you think veganism is perceived in German politics and society right now? Do discussions at Bundestag about the meat industry take place?

  1. It‘s really just a Söder thing after he became a food blogger. Like, really. He has an instagram.

  2. In some bubbles, especially on the right side of the political spectrum, veganism is no longer just a personal choice but a political issue and abused for polarization. Some political decisions do not really help, like the ruling that something plant based can no longer be called ‘sausage’. However, in real life veganism is quite accepted.
