What are the odds this article is a big exaggeration? I’d bet my house it is…
I often wondered how certain behaviours manifested historically.
I read somewhere that, for example, hoarding behaviour is something that can be linked to Neanderthal genes. And most Europeans have Neanderthal genes. But of course not everyone is a hoarder.
I just wonder what it looked like in the ancient world. Things such as addictive or pathological behaviours such as gambling or hoarding.
Did gambling manifest itself in taking big risks out in nature? Were hoarding Neanderthals collecting an excessive amount of rocks and storing them in their cave?
Worth remembering that the gambling companies:
1) know almost immediately who is going to be a problem gambler
2) deliberately design their products to encourage problem gambling and addictive behaviour
3) make almost all of their money from problem gamblers.
They have sophisticated algorithms to ensure that if you are a “winner” restrictions are put on your ability to gamble immediately. If you are a hopeless addict losing everything you own senior executives will call you to ensure you stay gambling.
Evil companies full of evil people.
The first video game I ever played was Blackjack on my uncle’s Atari. Soooo yeah.
Its rampant. As someone whos struggled in the past with gambling its such an issue in today’s society, but its one of those taboos that dont get spoken about because of the shame that goes along with it.
Kids on screens see pop up sites for online casinos and it only takes a few clicks to get into them.
The National Lottery is gambling. But, the national lottery says ‘play responsibly’. Presenting gambling as a game is dangerous, but the National Lottery is profitable. It is wrong
