Anyone who’s been up North knows it: there’s nothing worse than standing for hours at -15°C, staring at the sky because an app told you “KP 5!”, only to find out the sky was cloudy or the aurora was 100 km further east.
After yet another disappointment, as a developer (and stubborn dreamer), I decided to take matters into my own hands. I spent the last few weeks building Aurora Hunter.
This is not the usual app with a random number. I created a system that overlays in real time:
🌌 Aurora map (official NOAA data, not estimates)
☁️ Cloud map (to know where the sky is clear)
📍 Your GPS location
Basically, it tells you: “Get in the car and go THERE.”
I’ve just launched it on the Play Store and it’s completely free to try. As an independent Italian project 🇮🇹, I’d really appreciate it if you download it and let me know what you think.
Happy hunting everyone (and dress warmly)! ❄️
