I went to Mauritius recently and was surprised to find that rolling tobacco and vapes were both illegal, but cigarettes were perfectly fine.
Shock horror.
Spaghetti Westerns weren’t filmed in the Wild West either.
No big deal. I’m sure the campaigners knew they would lose a few productions because of the ban. It’s not like this is some big unexpected gotcha.
Considering the phased ban on tobacco which will begin in 2027 (assuming it goes ahead as planned), this is actually going to be a bit of an issue going forward. It would be illegal to give an actor born in or after 2009 cigarettes (or even herbal faux-cigarettes), even if the actor is over 18. In ten years any film involving a scene where a young adult smokes will not be able to be legally filmed in the UK.
I’m surprised the Tobacco and Vapes Bill hasn’t received more attention tbh, there’s lots of little things like this it will “break”.
