  1. And a lot of dutch people are AGAIN thinking, WTF ??

  2. Below is a condensed overview of the main policy plans announced by the new coalition. This is a paraphrased summary.

    * Unemployment benefits shortened to one year
    * Pension age continues rising with life expectancy
    * €1.5bn extra for education; internships must be paid
    * Caps on foreign students in popular university courses
    * Lelystad Airport opens with limited flights
    * Schiphol night-flight noise cut by 50% by 2030
    * Defence spending increased to 3.5% of GDP (around 20 Billion Euros)
    * Possible partial return of conscription
    * 30% social housing requirement in new developments
    * Stricter income checks for social housing tenants
    * €20bn nitrogen fund; end of red diesel for farmers
    * Higher healthcare deductible with payment caps
    * Sugar tax and free fruit in schools
    * Asylum restrictions remain; no ban on housing priority
    * Higher age limits for tobacco, sex work, gambling ads banned

Personally, the housing + welfare changes seem like they’ll hit hardest. Interested to hear other views.

  3. I think the plans are very much a mixed bag. Some necessary reforms when it comes to the housing market and defense spending. A lot of reforms when it comes to social benefits, which get toned down seemingly for purely financial reasons. Our health insurances keep covering less and less, I can only assume because we have to deal with an aging population that uses more health care.

EU policies that are in line with EU policies. And long term environmental policies that might or might not just remain long term plans as usual, with even more permits that might or might not solve anything.

  4. Are minority governments more common in the Netherlands, do they work?

  5. so at the end a minority centrist right coalition was formed?
