Hi everyone,

We're looking with my wife to purchase a property, and Vilvoorde falls right in our zone in terms of budget & convenience to commute to Brussels (via train).

We'll soon be visiting a property (and surrounding areas) that seems the perfect match from the pictures, which would in the Broek area and more specifically in the 4 Fonteinen project (where the house is pinpointed on the map)

We've heard mixed things about Vilvoorde and specifically the area around the train station, so wondering if it's generally safe and quiet around the circled area. Or if locals have any other tips on what to check out when we go there to visit 🙂

  1. I wouldn’t buy anything in that area. Just my feeling. Have you considered anything slightly further away in the Flemish Brabant?

  2. I would avoid, there is/was a lot of industry and If remember well there are the wastewater treatment plant and the waste incinerator not so far… for fresh air 😀

  3. I grew up on the other side of the bridge/forest. Always loved it, my parents do too, still live there. though it did change quite a bit since. the kids there are growing less shy… to put it politely. It’s dealing with the same issues a lot of places in vilvoorde are dealing with, which, in my opinion, are partially due to political influences. That part of vilvoorde is being heavily pushed to be a residential part, but it is actually smack in the middle of a lot of industry. If your budget allows it, maybe look into kassei, fabourgh or far west. They are a more residential and out of the way of the industry.

  4. As long as you don’t lower your broek in public you should be fine!

  5. Lots of trash on the streets and not accessable via car.
