The Germans didn’t want the barbaric Russian soldier to recover and continue attacking. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian population suffered as a result. Many Ukrainians were subsequently killed and deported by the Russians.
And that’s written by the same soviets who booby-trapped whole Krestchatyk with radiomines when retreating
