European security officials believe two Russian space vehicles have intercepted the communications of at least a dozen key satellites over the continent.
The likely interceptions, which have not previously been reported, risk compromising sensitive information transmitted by the satellites and could allow Moscow to manipulate their trajectories or even crash them, according to analysts.
How would the mere interception of the signal between those satellites pose such a security risk? I mean, they communicate encrypted, don’t they?

There were also some YouTube videos detailing the fact that many satellites rely on proprietary protocols with barely any encryption. Theoretically any embassy with a reasonably technical person could catch a lot. Even if not understanding military communication it seemed to ay least catch some metadata
