Well duh. You’d have to be quite deluded to be optimistic at the moment.
Well, wars spring up like mushrooms, states fire on crowds, the return of fascist groups, an arms race. International law has become waste paper. I’d say there’s little reason to be optimistic.
Because social media tells everyone how miserable their lives are. I’m not saying things are perfect, but without social media, people would be a lot more realistic.
isnt it justified huh
Hard to be optimistic when you have had austerity for over a decade, you see the government constantly caving to companies, you see all our leaders engage in pedophilia with the billionaire class, you see our leaders support a genocide and beating up protesters for being against genocide. It’s hard to be optimistic.
I’m pessimistic about the state of the world but I’m (very) cautiously optimistic about the future of Europe.
Yeah no shit. I imagined my twenties a bit different. Like… golden twenties…
Nah…..Sad thing is that EU is doing exceptionally worse than most part of the world.
I dont mean the living standard for european is worse than most part of the world (Actually they are doing quite ok)
but the trend is so fucked up……..
Hope is a precious thing
Have you seen the current state of the world. What sort of idiot would be optimistic about that.
As a pessimist it’s been difficult not to feel at least a little vindicated by essentially the events of the past 25 years – particularly in what has been a climate of ungrounded, incessant and intellectually dishonest positivity.
From America’s Nazi problem to Europe happily being an American vassal state, blind support for Isreal for nakedly racial-political gain, overt and covert racism inherent in the supposed “order”, the complete denial and very deliberate lack of action following the 2008 financial crisis – it seems pretty obvious that the desire to convince yourself everything is fine or at least is getting better and everyone involved has good intentions, has led us precisely to where we are today.
Neoliberalism’s shambling corpse has been stumbling around dropping off extremities left, right and centre, and the desire to continue propping it up “Weekend At Bernie’s”-style is a continued embarrassment.
What would be nice would be if the current “awakening” came with a bit of actual intellectual honesty. Are we really acting as though America isn’t infested with white supremacists? As if Elon Musk didn’t throw up two Nazi salutes behind the president’s seal?
It’s time to stop pretending this is all going to work out in the end.
Welcome, nice to see so many new faces.
Take a seat, would you like some tea.
I know it’s difficult but things have been like this since well forever, glad more are aware of it, maybe it will change or become something new.
Lets find out.
To put it mildly. I find it outright depressing. My mental health already isn’t all that great, but it doesn’t feel like I can simply ignore what happens. It’s always at the back of my mind and it’s always thrusted in my face. I know I have no power to change it, but I can’t take solace in that or that millions of others go through the same. The billionaire class and the systems that enable rampant corruption are completely rinsing this beautiful planet and it’s people until they wither to the breaking point. Not to mention constant war and genocide. Shit’s bleak. How can one remain optimistic about the future of human society?
The only optimism I have is that a diet of McDonalds and old age might solve most of our problems soon.
Not surprising. It’s hard for me to think of any place on this planet which wasn’t in some type of crisis or deep trouble at the moment. Horrible leadership has become widespread, and civil societies everywhere are either becoming heavily polarized or rolled over by autocrats without any repercussions. I’m usually optimistic at least in terms of the technological progress, but even there there are so much uncertainty about AI and its impact.
People aren’t pessimistic because they hate the future.
They’re pessimistic because they can do the math.
Darkly funny part?
Pessimism here is actually a form of realism, not apathy.
Hope didn’t die it just stopped believing press releases.
Anyway,
welcome to the club of (emotionally functional), politically allergic.
Depression is the fourth stage of grief (for the old world order), before acceptance. Getting there.
