  1. Main picture not the ship’s actual current state lol; it’s at high readiness having just finished [an air defence exercise](https://www.navylookout.com/hms-duncan-on-exercise-sharpshooter-defence-against-modern-surface-and-missile-threats/).

Although it’s “considering” it’s apparently quite likely. The UK did already improve its defences at Akrotiri with more fighters, and I can only hope that there’s a SAM battery there as well, but the Type 45’s are the most sophisticated air defence system the UK possesses and it’s obviously a hotspot, so it’s certainly ideal if one is sent.

Along with the Greek frigates that were already dispatched and the UK considering a T45:

    > France has already agreed to send a frigate and anti-drone systems to Cyprus, according to Cypriot government officials. A request has also been made for support from Germany, which is under consideration.

  2. British sailors! Are you ready to die for Epstein?

  3. For context as to why this wasn’t the immediate case, the UK currently has the majority of its available assets in the north sea on a counter-Russia posture.

They want to send HMS Duncan which is specialised in anti-drone warfare, though are considering different ships as HMS Duncan is still in port after just completing a major anti-drone swam operation, so might not be as ready for deployment.

  4. A reminder of EU’s collective defense clause, article 42(7), and that Cyprus is a member of the EU:

    >If a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

I have a feeling that this will be tested in the near future.

  5. The EU held 3 days before being dragged into war at the behest of Israel and the US. Nice. Good job guys next time lets go for a week shall we? Baby steps.

  6. Considering is actually stupid. Two are sat in dock, one should be sailing already.

Iran’s missiles can’t reach the uk so covering our bases on Cyprus is our main goal.
