Hi everyone,

Trying to get home from Berlin to Amsterdam, however due to the weather trains the last few days have been cancelled. I had a direct ticket from Berlin to Amsterdam yesterday which has been cancelled due to said cancellations. Thus I have two questions I'd greatly appreciate help with:

Can I use my old ticket for this new route via Frankfurt,

And given the weather do you think this routing will actually get me to Amsterdam? Especially because it says 'Alternative connection'.

Apologies if this is off topic, mods feel free to delete

Thank you 🙂

  1. Definitely take the first leg to Frankfurt. If you miss your connection there for any reason, you can take any other train to NL. Looks like you will just end up getting your planned connection, which will be in Amsterdam slightly later due to reduced speeds.

  2. Train binding has been cancelled u can take any train with ur ticket as long as it goes in the direction off your route

  3. > Can I use my old ticket for this new route via Frankfurt,

Sure. The route is a bit unusual, but if this is what the DB app recommends, you will not have any issues.

If there is an earlier option, I would prefer that, though (e.g. just take an earlier train to Frankfurt). If you miss your connection, there are probably not many alternatives.

  4. It says “Alternative connection” because Berlin – Frankfurt – Amsterdam isn’t normally a recommended or allowed route for normal Berlin – Amsterdam direct tickets. *But it is allowed today* because the direct Berlin – Amsterdam trains are cancelled and the straight route through Hannover is completely closed
