  1. Main points :

    – Work is continuing in Government on finalising a package of measures to relieve high fuel costs brought about by the US war in Iran.

    – The package will include a cut to excise on diesel and petrol and adjustments to the cost of home heating oil.

    – As prices for fuel continue to rise and pressure on the Government to act grows, it is now clear that the interventions being planned will see prices for motorists reduced at the pumps.

    – It is understood this will involve a cut in excise duty on every litre of diesel and petrol sold.

    – There will also be a reduction in excise on green diesel used in the agriculture and marine sectors.

  2. Finalising like they are the Scoliosis surgeries, childcare costs, Occupied Territories Bill, etc, etc, or actually finalising?

  3. Odds of cuts being applied, but not all of it being passed onto customers? Really would drive you mental.

  4. The real question is why there is not a system in place already to provide clarity on what should happen when or if there are sudden massive short term changes in energy costs. Why is this bring done ad-hoc and on the fly?

  5. I’ve never seen the customs officers out like they have been this past week. I haven’t been dipped in the 3 years or so I have been driving. Dipped Monday morning and again this morning. No doubt cushioning the blow the cut in excise will bring..

  6. How many billion rainy day fund do we have now? Id class this as a rainy day cut the tax you useless cretins

  7. Spain has frozen rents for the duration.
Some countries have ordered 4 day weeks across entire sectors.
Japan has ordered companies to use WFH as a national priority.

FFG are sorta thinking about maybe doing the bare fucking minimum next week, maybe, once they all get back from their Paddy’s Day jollies.

Imagine what it’s like to live in a country with competent leaders who give a shit about the people…

  8. Fuel industry right now:

Fuel excise will drop by X cents, followed by a random, mysterious increase that night that will wipe out the excise cut.

  9. 2.29 for diesel in the place beside me this morning. Was it that high even when it kicked off in Ukraine?
