.He did horrible things, as all rulers did back then. He had an obsession with noses (and likely other things). He built great structures, and I am disappointed he failed in his plan to invade the Netherlands.
While his dark history in the Congo is undeniable, he was also screwed over by the ‘big brothers’—the UK and the US—who started a smear campaign once they realized the Congo was rich in gold and other valuables.
Google “the most murderous regimes in the world” and you have your answer. Its a disgrace this is even a debate

He is overly vilified in order to keep the wider establishment which profited of the inhumane treatment of the Congolese natives out of shot.
