Hey Everyone,
So I was scrolling on Instagram and came across this post that was offering some magazine for free or at least which I thought was free. I just wanted more unusual things to read so I filled in my name, address and email. I didn't know that magazine subscriptions have yearly contract and you have to cancel them in 14 day period. I out of my ignorance and foolishness thought it as a freebie without any consequences. This month I got a bill of 29 euros. This is a service that sends materials for business. I really can't afford this as I am student and living way below my means.
It would be a great help if you guys could give me any solutions that would get me out of this.
My Mistake:
– Not reading the terms and conditions.
– Going after freebies.
– Not understanding the contract system
Things I have done:
– I have sent an email explaining my situation and not knowing the contract system.

They may be nice enough to let you cancel but they really don’t have to
Take it as a lesson and hope that they are willing to cancel it. There is no reason for them to do so.

Check this. You are able to cancel it within 14 days after you started the “contract”. It’s german or european law.
Edit: ah sorry, just read, that the 14 days trial is already finished… I think in this case, it won’t work probably
I am really sorry but there is no way out but to pay the subscription. If you don t, they will send it to an Inkasso ( collection agency) and eventually to a lawyer and they will add a lot to it. One slight chance is that if you have signed up for a student subscription and they put you into a regular subscription. Then you can cancel saying that they gave you the wrong subscription. You can also cancel if the service cannot be provided where you live. For example, you sign up for a German internet service and then move to the UK.
For others reading this **NEVER sign up for anything in Germany unless you can cancel it WITH PROOF.** For offline, ( for example, joining a free trial in a gym) ask for the cancellation form as soon as you join. For offline, make sure you can cancel. Companies often ignore emails or phone calls. EIther there should be technical means to cancel online, with proof, or you have to send a registered letter cancelling the service BEFORE the time runs out.
You can hope that they will let you out, but they are not obliged to do so. You are contractually capable, and the excuse that you did not understand does not count.
