  1. There are plenty of pro-communist/anti-capitalist news sites, who cares if we lose one.

  2. Well yeah, if you block all their bank accounts how are they meant to pay their staff?

Was this one of the publications Israel targeted through the banking system once they started reported on the Gaza Genocide?

  3. Given the bank didn’t explain why they froze their accounts, the most likely explanation is the Canary is being investigated for receiving funds from either Iran or Russia.

In those cases, if the bank suspects it’s occurred, it would be a criminal offence for them to tip off the suspect by explaining why they have frozen the account.

The other explanation would be money laundering, but given the Canary has a history of taking extremely pro-kremlin positions, I’m betting it’s the former.

  4. That’s so unfair.

We need hostile forgien states talking points laundered from a left wing and a right wing perspective.

Losing the Canary means we just have Brietbart on the otherside

  5. Good riddance. They paid their staff (for a long time) on a per-click basis. Tabloid journalism without the journalism.

  6. Canary staff not paid amid fears for news website’s future? I mean, it seems more like Canary staff not paid because their bank has frozen their accounts.
