  1. I thought they were going for an IPO . I guess most IPOs are when business are about to tip into disaster and they missed their opportunity.

  2. How does this country expect to be international competitive in ANYTHING if the government won’t subsidise industry that is supported elsewhere. The American government liberally bails out its huge companies when they have trouble.

  3. Isn’t JLR Indian owned now?

Besides, why would a government bail out a private business?

Supply and demand dictates that if the demand is there, the supply needs will be absorbed by other automotive businesses.

If the demand isn’t there, government intervention is just a temporary bandage.

  4. I was just wondering the other day how they are supporting their staff at the moment. They stopped making any cars months ago and Type 01 is still months away from production. So what are all their factory workers even doing???

  5. I remember applying for their engineer grad scheme a few years ago based in Warwickshire. I didn’t get in, but I feel sorry for all the people who will be made redundant. It could be tough getting back into a similar job.

  6. If the UK had a public investment fund, feels like a perfect candidate for that kind of “bailout”. Historic British brand that can continue to be a private business but generating dividends for the public instead of being foreign owned

  7. JLR is one of the top exporters in the UK. It’s foreign owned but there are hundreds of thousands of good jobs in the UK as a result, once you factor in the supply chains.

They need to get their shit together. I don’t like seeing government bailouts of incompetent corporations but there’s a lot at stake here.

  8. JLR are owned by Tata.

JLR experienced a cyber attack that cost them an absolute tonne of money.

Other British companies, such as Co-op, M&S and Harrods also experienced cyber attacks.

What do all those companies have on common? They offshore some of their IT/Software work to TCS.

    I wonder what the T stands for…

Maybe Tata should move some money around their own companies to compensate.

  9. It shouldn’t need a bailout. It’s not doing that badly.

Lose some jobs, rehire in Hungary is probably the name of the game right now.

  10. Let the Indian company that own it vail it out. They’re billionaires.
