From where im living at the moment in West cork the only people buying deralict buildings are Dutch German American and English people who want to use the grant to build a subsidised holiday home. Banks won’t take into account the grants when applying for a mortgage on these properties, and the price of these sites has quadrupled since the deralict property grant was introduced. The grant also only pays out as a reimbursement so you have to have the cash for the full project. It’s a holiday home grant for the wealthy at this point, and doesn’t make any dent into our available housing stock.
