  1. That is way too early. I’m not agaonst Ukraine joining, but the war must be over at the very least.

  2. I feel they’re talking about joining the “EU” not EU. Ukraine would “join” partially, for example without voting/veto rights. Something like Norway does.

Otherwise, what would be the motivation for Ukraine to join the European army (NATO is obviously dead) and die for baltics, polish or germans, if they didn’t die for its security? And it has to join, because Europeans have near-zero experience of waging full-scale drone-driven wars against the equally strong enemy. And the russians are already skilled as hell.

  3. We need to fix the Hungary/Slovakia issues before adding new members (mainly Hungary), and new members should have a trial period with restricted powers.

  4. Bad idea. They should go through the process everyone else did then they will be very much welcomed.

  5. I have nothing against Ukraine joining, but I don’t want any ‘fast track’ because of the war. The conditions must be met; the EU doesn’t need any more Hungarys.

  6. The best time to buy insurance is after you are chronically ill.

  7. If they meet the requirements and we have helped them to kick out the orcs from all of their territories, why not?

  8. wasn’t there too much corruption to join or? the requirements are rigid I guess. fine giving them aid and weapons though

  9. Well, what kind of Russian bots have reacted till now I don’t know, but even a ceremonial joining wouldn’t be illogical in my view. Just to show they are welcome in the project whatever happens. This is the reason a ‘second'(second doesn’t mean lesser, Ukraine has a way better militairy for example) tier EU wouldn’t be that illogical, some EU laws cannot be extrapolated to Ukraine, but to show at least that they belong is very important. I hope we can let join some other countries in a similar way at exact the same time, such that it feels even a stronger decision, like some Balkan countries or Norway/Iceland.

  10. Doesn’t matter if it is “many”. It must be unanimous, and what the European Commission wants doesn’t matter. They don’t make these decisions.

As for Ukraine specifically, I don’t see why standards should be lowered just because Ukraine happens to be a country at war. One can sign mutual defense treaties and everything like that to cover their security concerns, all without granting them membership.

  11. Somehow country in war that didn’t even started opening chapters will join before Montenegro that closed 13 chapter(10 from june 2024).

Fucking Serbia has more closed chapters than Ukraine has opened chapters.

  12. I’m no expert – please correct me, but here is my take:
Honestly I think the EU (mostly Ursula) has no interest in making Ukraine a EU member any soon.
Look at the current trade deals made.
EU is now involved with the Indians in a large scale. India is deeply involved in Russian affairs. And I doubt that India will accept this since they are heavily influenced by Russian oil exports and the Russians won’t give up on a long (economically) lost conflict.

  13. I have respect for Zel, but he must be not in touch with reality…because Ukraine is the biggest country in Europe (excluding the war monger juggernaut Russia) corrupted as it is big, and in a kinda of a war….

  14. The only thing this will achieve is extreme levels of corruption and little to no benefits for the vast majority of Ukrainians.

  15. I’m so proud of pro-Ukraine that I eat salo for lunch, borscht and bread for lunch and the blood of the occupiers for dinner- but this is not a reality anymore than Ukraine joining NATO in the next 3 years is. It must happen and I’ll fight to the death to make it happen, but this is magical thinking.

  16. I know how it was in Poland, it took a decade to reduce corruption. In Ukraine it will take at least this much if not more. 2027 is so unrealistic I don’t know why it’s even mentioned.
