My fellow Poles… Why do we call this symbol “monkey”?

  1. IDK but my working theory is because of the perceived tail

  2. If you use your imagination it looks like a monkey with a long tail. Not Polish but I can see that.

  3. Either because it’s black or because it has a tail.

  4. Well, in Spanish, it’s “monito” (little monkey), and in Dutch: “apestaartje” (little monkey tail).

  5. I heard that there as a contest for the best name for this new symbol. And “monkey” won.

  6. In the begining it was “monkey tail”. Evolved into “monkey”

  7. “Myszka” was already taken and “Szczur” doesn’t sound that nice.

  8. Pretty self-explanatory: looks like a monkey tail. Although we probably copied the homework from Germans who call it a “monkey tail” and came up with it comparing it to spider monkeys’ tails specifically
