But I guess that flies in the face of their conflicting blatant desire for european digital authoritarianism – the current active drive toward banning unbroken encryption and chat control etc. Can’t do that without outlawing linux and open source in europe too – can’t have any smart kid able to just patch out backdoors and add unbroken encryption with widely-available open source libraries.

Honestly, so many apps today seem to be racing to the bottom of the barrel when it comes to actually providing a service users can be happy with. We can do better.
And at my university in Madrid we just got rid of all the telephones in favor of using the Teams phone system…

I support this 100%. But I also remember that when other countries seek to restrict US-based social media platforms, messengers, or websites, we cry about liberal values and human rights. I hope this situation helps us understand that often people are suspicious of US and its digital products for a good reason.
