For context, I recently lost my mother. I found a notebook with some of her writings in Lithuanian. I tried to translate it with google trad, and it said "the month begins/ends." I don't really understand what that means. Does this even have a meaning, or is it just something my mom wrote?

I’m sorry for your loss.
Sadly in this case GT is correct – it seems like perhaps she was practicing grammar this way?
Started in January
Ended in January etc.
There’s nothing cultural that gives us any context. Maybe she kept track of her medicine this way? Or maybe she kept track of the passing time this way? No idea.
A small tidbit:
It’s not exactly “The <month> began”, but “of <month> began”.
It could in theory be a code for, e.g. “X of March began, X of March ended”.
