Depuis le début de l’invasion russe en février 2022, la France n’a jamais laissé planer le doute sur son soutien à l’Ukraine. Livraisons d’armes, formation de militaires, aide financière, soutien diplomatique et sanctions contre Moscou : Paris s’est imposé comme l’un des principaux soutiens européens de Kiev.
Que la France aide un pays victime d’une agression militaire est une chose. Que cette solidarité trouve sa place au cœur du défilé du 14 Juillet en est une autre.
Cette année, une vingtaine de soldats ukrainiens ont défilé sur les Champs-Élysées aux côtés d’environ 500 militaires issus de la « Coalition of the Willing », réunissant notamment des contingents britannique, allemand, polonais, canadien, roumain et australien. Pour l’Élysée, cette présence devait illustrer la solidarité des alliés européens avec l’Ukraine et rappeler le « réveil stratégique » du continent.
L’intention est parfaitement compréhensible. La question est de savoir si le défilé militaire de la fête nationale française était le lieu le plus naturel pour lui donner corps.
Une cérémonie qui raconte d’abord la France
Le 14 Juillet n’est pas un sommet de l’Otan. Ce n’est pas une réunion du G7. Ce n’est pas non plus une conférence internationale consacrée à la guerre en Ukraine.
