Il s\u2019agit de compos\u00e9s organiques retrouv\u00e9s dans un \u00e9chantillon de roche pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9e datant de 3,7\u00a0milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es. Ces longues cha\u00eenes de mol\u00e9cules, les plus grosses jamais retrouv\u00e9es sur la Plan\u00e8te rouge, sont souvent associ\u00e9es \u00e0 un type de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.20minutes.fr\/dossier\/chimie\" class=\"color-ultramarine c-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chimie <\/a>complexe n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 l\u2019origine de la vie, pr\u00e9cise une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e lundi dans la revue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1073\/pnas.2420580122\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-ultramarine c-link\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ces compos\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9s sur un \u00e9chantillon de roche baptis\u00e9 Cumberland, collect\u00e9 en mai\u00a02013 dans une zone situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur d\u2019un crat\u00e8re appel\u00e9 Yellowknife Bay. Il semble \u00eatre un ancien lit de lac o\u00f9 des min\u00e9raux argileux s\u2019\u00e9taient form\u00e9s dans l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.20minutes.fr\/dossier\/eau\" class=\"color-ultramarine c-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eau<\/a>, ce qui a permis de capturer et de pi\u00e9ger des mol\u00e9cules organiques. L\u2019\u00e9chantillon a \u00e9t\u00e9 analys\u00e9 de plusieurs mani\u00e8res au fil des ann\u00e9es par le mini-laboratoire embarqu\u00e9 du rover.<\/p>\n<p>Des fragments d\u2019acides gras\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>On y a ainsi retrouv\u00e9 du soufre, qui peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 pour pr\u00e9server les mol\u00e9cules organiques, des nitrates essentiels \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 des plantes et des animaux sur Terre, et enfin du m\u00e9thane compos\u00e9 d\u2019un type de carbone associ\u00e9 aux processus biologiques. Et plus r\u00e9cemment, en chauffant l\u2019\u00e9chantillon, des petites quantit\u00e9s de d\u00e9cane, d\u2019und\u00e9cane et de dod\u00e9cane ont pu \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9es. Il pourrait ici s\u2019agir de fragments d\u2019acides gras, des mol\u00e9cules organiques qui constituent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments chimiques de base de la vie sur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.20minutes.fr\/sciences\/terre\/\" class=\"color-ultramarine c-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terre<\/a>, car \u00e0 l\u2019origine des membranes cellulaires. Il pourrait aussi s\u2019agir de compos\u00e9s form\u00e9s en l\u2019absence de vie en raison de l\u2019interaction entre l\u2019eau et les min\u00e9raux des chemin\u00e9es hydrothermales.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Pour l\u2019heure, il est donc difficile de se montrer affirmatif. Le laboratoire de Curiosity est incapable de d\u00e9tecter des cha\u00eenes d\u2019acides gras plus longues qui permettraient de prouver qu\u2019il y a bien eu de la vie sur Mars. Elle repr\u00e9sente toutefois d\u00e9j\u00e0 un grand pas, car elle montre que malgr\u00e9 les radiations solaires, des mol\u00e9cules organiques sont encore d\u00e9tectables dans les s\u00e9diments d\u00e9pos\u00e9s dans les anciens environnements aquatiques martiens.
