Chen)<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-StoryElement ap-StoryElement--mb ap-StoryText\">\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;enjeu de notre mission \u00e9tait de cartographier la zone o\u00f9 les f\u00fbts ont \u00e9t\u00e9 largu\u00e9s, pose Patrick Chardon, ing\u00e9nieur en m\u00e9trologie nucl\u00e9aire au sein du CNRS. \u00c0 l&rsquo;aide du robot autonome UlyX de la Flotte oc\u00e9anographique fran\u00e7aise, les chercheurs ont pu s&rsquo;aventurer \u00e0 plus de 4 000 m\u00e8tres de profondeur, pour tenter de retrouver les f\u00fbts, dont les d\u00e9chets comportaient une faible radioactivit\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0D\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re plong\u00e9e, on a pu constater la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;une centaine d&rsquo;entre eux. C&rsquo;est une grande surprise, car au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1980, une mission similaire n&rsquo;avait rapport\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence que de six f\u00fbts\u00a0\u00bb, s&rsquo;exclame Patrick Chardon. Pendant ce mois de mission, le robot UlyX a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 quelque 5 000 photographies, permettant de d\u00e9tecter 3 350 f\u00fbts, dont 50 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 photographi\u00e9s d&rsquo;un peu plus pr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lalibre.be\/planete\/environnement\/2025\/07\/30\/puissant-seisme-au-large-des-cotes-russes-cest-comme-si-vous-lanciez-un-rocher-de-la-taille-de-la-belgique-au-fond-de-leau-KIYJEJ4IYZBF5PLU4BNOYYX7LM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"ap-StoryInterstitialLink ap-StoryElement ap-StoryElement--mb\">Puissant s\u00e9isme au large des c\u00f4tes russes : \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est comme si vous lanciez un rocher de la taille de la Belgique au fond de l&rsquo;eau\u00a0\u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-StoryElement ap-StoryElement--mb ap-StoryText\">La cartographie des f\u00fbts a permis de retracer la trajectoire emprunt\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque par les bateaux qui ont jet\u00e9 les contenants par-dessus bord. \u00ab\u00a0Au fur et \u00e0 mesure que les petits points rouges repr\u00e9sentant les f\u00fbts sont apparus sur la carte, on a pu identifier les zones de concentration maximale, afin de savoir o\u00f9 on allait pr\u00e9lever\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9veloppe l&rsquo;ing\u00e9nieur en m\u00e9trologie nucl\u00e9aire. Les moyens actuels permettent une analyse plus fine de la situation qu&rsquo;\u00e0 la fin du si\u00e8cle dernier. \u00ab\u00a0Les op\u00e9rations de surveillance dans la zone \u00e9taient faites de mani\u00e8re totalement aveugle, ils d\u00e9couvraient quelques f\u00fbts al\u00e9atoirement\u00a0\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise Patrick Chardon. Certaines photographies ont tout de m\u00eame permis de d\u00e9couvrir que des f\u00fbts avaient explos\u00e9 lors de leur largage. \u00ab\u00a0Les fuites avaient lib\u00e9r\u00e9 des \u00e9l\u00e9ments radioactifs, et les scientifiques avaient constat\u00e9 ensuite qu&rsquo;aucune biodiversit\u00e9 ne s&rsquo;\u00e9tait d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e \u00e0 cet endroit\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ap-StoryQuote ap-StoryQuote--blockquote\">\n<p class=\"ap-StoryQuote-text\">\u00ab\u00a0Les fuites avaient lib\u00e9r\u00e9 des \u00e9l\u00e9ments radioactifs, et les scientifiques avaient constat\u00e9 ensuite qu&rsquo;aucune biodiversit\u00e9 ne s&rsquo;\u00e9tait d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e \u00e0 cet endroit\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Une seconde mission \u00e0 venir<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-StoryElement ap-StoryElement--mb ap-StoryText\">Les chercheurs ont aussi proc\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 des pr\u00e9l\u00e8vements autour des s\u00e9diments, de l&rsquo;eau et des poissons, pour mieux comprendre comment le monde sous-marin s&rsquo;est adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de ces f\u00fbts. Lors d&rsquo;une seconde mission, les scientifiques chercheront \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer l&rsquo;\u00e9ventuelle pr\u00e9sence de traces de radioactivit\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur des organismes. Ainsi, dix-sept grenadiers &#8211; une esp\u00e8ce de poissons r\u00e9sidant dans les abysses et vivant parfois jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 60 ans &#8211; ont \u00e9t\u00e9 p\u00each\u00e9s.
