TATE                 <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">Quand Ithell Colquhoun est morte, en\u00a01988, \u00e0 81\u00a0ans, sa disparition est pass\u00e9e inaper\u00e7ue. Cet \u00e9t\u00e9, la Tate Britain lui consacre une r\u00e9trospective tr\u00e8s compl\u00e8te \u00e0 Londres, qui a d\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 la Tate St Ives, dans les Cornouailles, o\u00f9 l\u2019artiste a pass\u00e9 une grande partie de sa vie. La reconnaissance est aussi visible que tardive. En France, o\u00f9 l\u2019artiste \u00e9tait aussi peu connue, elle en est \u00e0 ses d\u00e9buts\u00a0: quelques toiles dans les expositions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/article\/2023\/04\/22\/surrealisme-au-feminin-au-musee-de-montmartre-le-desir-de-liberte-du-mouvement-celebre_6170609_3246.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00ab\u00a0Surr\u00e9alisme au f\u00e9minin\u00a0?\u00a0\u00bb<\/a>, au Mus\u00e9e de Montmartre, en\u00a02023, et dans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/article\/2024\/09\/03\/au-centre-pompidou-plongee-tout-en-spirale-dans-le-surrealisme_6303110_3246.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00ab\u00a0Surr\u00e9alisme\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> au Centre Pompidou, en\u00a02024. Ce devrait \u00eatre les signes annonciateurs d\u2019une exposition fran\u00e7aise de plus grande ampleur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">De la Tate Britain, on ressort avec la conviction que peu de ses contemporains ont montr\u00e9 autant de constance, de r\u00e9solution et d\u2019audace dans leurs recherches. Colquhoun est moins soucieuse d\u2019\u00eatre comprise que d\u2019aller au bout de ses pens\u00e9es et de ses interrogations. Elle ose peindre et exposer d\u00e8s la fin des ann\u00e9es 1920\u00a0des \u0153uvres qui n\u2019acceptent ni les r\u00e8gles habituelles de la d\u00e9cence, ni les principes ordinaires de la rationalit\u00e9 \u2013 et cela alors que sa situation de femme artiste ne peut \u00e9videmment que lui valoir un surcro\u00eet de r\u00e9probation. L\u2019une de ses toiles les plus transgressives emprunte son titre \u00e0 la mythologie antique\u00a0: Scylla, de sa s\u00e9rie \u00ab\u00a0M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb, en\u00a01938.<\/p>\n<p class=\"reading-mode-only \"><strong>Il vous reste 83.36% de cet article \u00e0 lire.
