Dans Le Mambo de Jacmel, il compose le portrait imaginaire d\u2019une pr\u00eatresse vaudou du sud <a href=\"https:\/\/www.admagazine.fr\/article\/ou-vit-sean-penn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">d\u2019Ha\u00efti<\/a>, devant un paysage montagneux inspir\u00e9 d\u2019un tableau du paysagiste flamand Joachim Patinir, repr\u00e9sentant la c\u00f4te escarp\u00e9e de Jacmel. Cette figure mystique se pare de multiples symboles et attributs vaudous : masques sacr\u00e9s Fang du Gabon, bijoux orn\u00e9s de cauris, motifs de dentelle fran\u00e7aise, et une sculpture de Diablotin, embl\u00e8me de la spiritualit\u00e9 vaudou. Figure majeure du panth\u00e9on fran\u00e7ais de la peinture moderne post-impressionniste, Gauguin fut un personnage radical, ayant notamment partag\u00e9 la vie de Vincent Van Gogh \u00e0 Arles.
