Le Mus\u00e9e cantonal des beaux-arts (MCBA) de Lausanne, sa ville natale, organise la plus importante r\u00e9trospective qu\u2019on lui a jamais consacr\u00e9e\u00a0: 250\u00a0\u0153uvres \u2013 dont de nombreux pr\u00eats de collections priv\u00e9es \u2013 sur deux \u00e9tages et 1\u00a0400\u00a0m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s. M\u00eame si Vallotton a quitt\u00e9 Lausanne pour Paris \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 16\u00a0ans et y a fait l\u2019essentiel de sa carri\u00e8re, la ville vaudoise a l\u2019heureux privil\u00e8ge de disposer dans les collections du MCBA d\u2019un ensemble exceptionnel d\u2019\u0153uvres, mais aussi d\u2019une fondation qui lui est consacr\u00e9e et conserve ses archives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">C\u2019est dire que le regard port\u00e9 par les commissaires, Catherine Lepdor (pour le mus\u00e9e) et Katia Poletti (pour la fondation), s\u2019appuie sur une base extr\u00eamement solide, qui manquait sans doute aux pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes expositions\u00a0: on croyait conna\u00eetre l\u2019artiste, on en d\u00e9couvre toutes les nuances et la complexit\u00e9. Et surtout, on aborde ici la totalit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre, peintures, gravures, dessins en tout genre\u00a0: il va jusqu\u2019\u00e0 s\u2019essayer, anonymement, aux dessins de mode\u00a0!
