George Clooney and Amal Clooney celebrated the actor’s milestone 65th birthday on the coast in France.
George, who turned 65 on Wednesday, May 6, and his wife Amal, 48, were photographed stepping off a boat in St. Tropez, France, on the country’s southern coast on Thursday, May 7, as they enjoyed lunch with friends.
George and Amal famously met in 2013 when they were introduced by a mutual friend and married in Venice, Italy, in September 2014. The couple, who share 8-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, formally made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards and have been going strong for more than 11 years since.
George and Amal primarily live in France; he also owns an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy and another property near his family in Kentucky. The whole family obtained French citizenship in December 2025, according to a naturalization decree obtained by French newspaper the Journal officiel and viewed by PEOPLE.

Clooney shared some commentary on aging when he caught up with PEOPLE ahead of his birthday at the 51st Chaplin Award gala in New York City on Monday, April 27, where he received a lifetime achievement award.
“It’s a weird thing,” he said when asked if there are any past movies of his he enjoys rewatching. “As you get older, it’s hard to watch movies when you were younger because you’re like, ‘Holy s—, that doesn’t even look like me anymore.’ “
The actor said he recently watched his 2009 stop-motion animated movie with Wes Anderson, Fantastic Mr. Fox, with his children.

“So I was watching Fantastic Mr. Fox, which is a little easier because it’s not really me, it’s just my voice,” Clooney noted. “That’s kind of fun because the kids are slowly figuring out what I do for a living, you know? But the rest of it … Listen, it’s hard because I tend to not want to look back, but now that I’m gonna be 65 in a week, looking forward’s a lot shorter view, you know what I mean? So maybe I’ll look back later, you know?”

Clooney most recently appeared in a movie when he played the titular fictional movie star in 2025’s Jay Kelly. He is currently working on Ocean’s 14, a sequel to his three heist movies with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts. Variety reported in December 2025 that the production intends to begin filming in October.
According to an October 2025 Deadline article, Clooney will also appear in the upcoming French movie Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent, in French), a spinoff of the French television series of the same name starring Camille Cottin. The movie is scheduled for release on May 23.
