Al Roker’s youngest daughter, Leila, tied the knot in France, and he revealed that while returning home after the celebrations, he received an interesting request from the CDC.

The weather and feature anchor for TODAY explained on the morning show’s May 12 episode that not only did Leila get married in France over Mother’s Day weekend, but that the CDC asked him if he’d be tested in the wake of a cruise ship hantavirus outbreak.
“I was coming from Europe this weekend from my daughter’s wedding, and the CDC was asking people to voluntarily test,” Roker explained. “But they didn’t say for what, so I just wonder if it was a precaution here.”

The 71-year-old was back at work on May 12, and congratulations are in order for 27-year-old Leila (who has lived in Paris for nearly a decade) and her new husband, Sylvain Gricourt!

When did Al Roker’s daughter Leila get engaged?
Leila announced her engagement in a March 2025 Instagram post, in which she wrote that eight years before that, she moved to Paris, and “[seven] years ago I met my person and best friend, and [two] days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together.” A little over a year later, and they’re now married!

Roker revealed in an interview with Swooon that was published on May 1, 2026 that the nuptials were approaching, saying that the wedding doubled as a gift for his wife, Deborah Roberts, who is the mom of Roker’s younger two children.
“Our daughter, Leila, is getting married, just before Mother’s Day. That Mother’s Day weekend, actually,” Roker told Swooon. “So, that’s kind of her Mother’s Day gift, I guess.”

Roker told the outlet that Gricourt, now his son-in-law, “speaks no English,” before joking, “We speak very little French, so we’ll get along great.”
How many kids does Al Roker have?
Roker has three children. His first daughter, Courtney, was born May 14, 1987, and was adopted by Roker and his then-wife Alice Bell. Roker and wife Deborah Roberts welcomed daughter Leila on November 17, 1998, and son Nicholas on July 18, 2002.
