A woman was gobsmacked when she checked the price of a Hermès scarf in a Chelsea charity shop.

Hermès is well-known for its high-quality garments, including its very desirable bags, such as Birkins and Kellys. Most of the items are handmade, and the making of each product is considered an art form, as they take so long to make. When it comes to the scarves specifically, they are often made using slow crafts like hand-printing, hand-painting or stitching, which quickly raises their value as they cannot be mass-produced, thus giving them a high retail price, with some Hermès scarves on their website costing as much as £5,410.

Danielle, who posts on TikTok as @charityshoplife, said she was shopping in Chelsea when she saw the “coolest thing” that she’s “spotted in a charity shop window”.

“Not one, but two tiger print Hermès scarves,” she gushed, as she showed a clip of her asking staff to take the scarves out for her so she could have a look.

Danielle said there was “no price in the window”, so she asked to have a closer look at the scarves, as she showed them off to the camera.

“The detail was just incredible. Look at the colours,” she gushed, clearly keen to take one home for herself. The scarf showed a white tiger moving through a stunning, vibrant scene of purple flowers, and it’s also made from silk to make it even more desirable.

But since they were in a charity shop, she thought she might be able to bag herself a bargain compared to the retail price.

However, Danielle then found out that each of the Hermès scarves was £650, which she said was “out of her personal budget”.

Shockingly, to some, the desirable Hermès scarf is also being sold on eBay for £1,342.53, so realistically, the charity shop is offering a huge bargain in comparison to other retailers.

Because Danielle doesn’t like to gatekeep where she finds amazing, unique pieces, she shared the scarves were in the Royal Trinity Hospice, so if they’re “in your budget and you want to go and buy them,” you can!

In the comments of her video, Danielle wrote: “They were stunning. Maybe one day I’ll have a Hermès scarf!”

Someone else penned: “So far out of my budget, but I WANT THEM,” and so did most other people in the comments section.

Hermès benefits from collectability and scarcity. Many designs and colourways appear seasonally or in limited runs, and fans actively hunt particular versions.

With this tiger print silk scarf being particularly desirable, fans will pay a premium, even though the item is in a charity shop rather than brand new from Hermès itself.
