GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (WMC) – The fence is up, and the equipment is in place as crews prepare to take down the Carrefour at Kirby Woods in Germantown on Tuesday.
The indoor/outdoor mall was a staple for years and was home to popular spots like Swanky’s Taco Shop and The Little Gym.
Local Michael Rollosson said whenever you see a well-known spot leaving, it is always a little sad.
“There is a nostalgia because you have spent a lot of happy times in that space and those places, and it always makes you smile,” Rollosson said.
The demolition is not a new update; the space was purchased in 2022 and rebranded as “The Standard Germantown.” It will have 320 loft-style residences on Kirby Parkway and over 27,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
Locals like Dominic Carbognani are happy the space is moving into the future.
“I think it’s a great spot to do it, there are plenty of businesses around the corner, you have International Paper, and I think it is a prime location to have some type of development,” Carbognani said.
November 2024 was when all of the tenants moved out, and with demolition set to begin Tuesday, the next steps will be taken.
