#Ethiopian Electric Utility, Électricité de #France sign agreement to cooperate on medium-voltage power line installation
Ethiopia and France have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in the installation of medium-voltage electric power lines
The agreement was signed between the Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) and Électricité de France (EDF) on the sidelines of the ongoing Ethiopia–European Union Investment Forum in Paris.
According to the EEU, the agreement covers collaboration on medium-voltage line installation and techniques for repairing electric power lines without service interruption, commonly known as live-line maintenance.
The cooperation will also extend to technical and training support, supply of materials, capacity building, and loan arrangements.
EEU Chief Executive Officer Engineer Getu Geremew said the agreement will strengthen the institution’s technical capacity, enabling it to carry out safe and reliable network maintenance. He added that it will play a significant role in modernizing Ethiopia’s power sector and improving electricity accessibility.
In a related development, the EEU held discussions with Thames Electrical, a Kenyan company, on potential cooperation in the local production of electric infrastructure inputs in Ethiopia.
Anwar Abrar, the EEU’s Communication Executive, told local media that Thames Electrical expressed interest in establishing manufacturing operations for electric infrastructure inputs in Ethiopia.
