A Covington man who was reported missing this week was found dead in France, police said.
Just a day after receiving a missing person’s report for Todd Garland, Covington police heard from Homeland Security Investigations that the 64-year-old was found dead in Paris, France, on June 23, according to a news release.
Covington Police Department detectives contacted Garland in connection with a criminal investigation June 10, the release said. Police say investigators found out June 23 that Garland had left the U.S. for Paris June 11.
Garland’s former employer, Roebling Books & Coffee posted on Facebook regarding their concerns for Garland’s safety. He was last seen June 9, said the shop’s Facebook post.
Garland worked at the shop for about four years before leaving in December 2025, according to Julia Keister, spokesperson of the Northern Kentucky business. He also worked at Blinkers Tavern in Covington for a few months in 2026.
During a wellness check at Garland’s apartment on Friday, June 19, Keister said police found his cellphone, dog and cat. Garland’s pets were alive but malnourished.
The Paris Police Prefecture is investigating Garland’s death.
