How does quality factor into what you wear?
When I speak about the 501 or like, the short leather jacket, it was a product that you were supposed to keep and it’d last forever. Even through my time, I kind of wear different items, but it was always with the same idea of, I like icons. I like how you treat them, how you wear them.
How they change over time?
Yes, how they change over time. If we drop brands, a used Converse is what I find the most beautiful. A used leather jacket – fantastic. I think the – I say it’s a ‘stain’, but it’s a bit of a French translation – the marks of life on garments is the most sexy thing. It makes you look good.
Is it the idea that as you get older, you get wiser, and the garments have gotten wiser?
Not only that. I think a garment that is used shows that you wore it, and I think that we should wear everything we have. I am still collecting sneakers, but the reason for buying them is way different to what it was back in the day. I would say that I’ve worn every pair I own, because there is no point in keeping it in the box forever. It doesn’t make sense to me. There are things that I haven’t worn, because they are very dear to me in terms of aesthetic and I consider them almost as a painting, but I need a pair to rock. I need a pair to wear.
What pairs do you have in your collection?
A lot of SBs, I would say. A lot of Jordans, because it was also close to skating and sport in general for me. From the Air Jordan 1, 2, 3, 4, up to the 5, they were almost like skate shoes for me, and we’ve seen that they released a couple of them as SBs now. That’s what I keep, and I want, and I wear. I hope my kids will enjoy them as well.
