I think France get the bronze medal here fairly comfortably.

The 2026 World Cup third-place game will take place on Saturday as France and England fight for the bronze. This is the game that nobody in soccer wants to play in. You are one game away from the final, and instead you play for third position.

These two teams lost in completely different ways in the semi-finals. France did not look like themselves against Spain, and never really were a threat to score in the 2-0 loss. England, however, had one foot in the final against Argentina. They led 1-0 in the 85th minute before Argentina did what they usually do, scoring two late goals to get the 2-1 win and book themselves a spot in the final for the second World Cup in a row. Both teams were favorites to win their respective semi-finals and will be disappointed that their journey has ended at the second-to-last hurdle.

I think France will win this one. They looked like the best team in this tournament up until the semi-final, where they didn’t look like their usual selves and had a bad day at the office. I think they get back to winning ways in this one and bounce back. It will be tougher for England to get up for this one given how their match ended. They lost in heartbreaking fashion, conceding two late goals. It will be tough for them to get motivated for this one after being so close to the World Cup final.

Spain did a number on France, but this is still the same French team that outscored opponents 16-2 before the semi-final in this tournament. England on the other hand, scraped by DR Congo, Mexico and Norway, beating all three opponents by a single goal. They looked like they were on course to do it again against Argentina, but their luck ran out. I will take France here to pick up the bronze.
