Victory traveled in Louis Vuitton — and ultimately went home with Spain.

Before Spain defeated Argentina to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, the tournament’s trophy arrived on the pitch inside its official Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunk. Ambassadors of the French maison Carlos Alcaraz and Hoyeon were joined by former World Cup winners Andrés Iniesta and Mario Kempes for the pre-match presentation. Iniesta represented Spain’s 2010 championship team, while Kempes helped lead Argentina to victory in 1978, creating a symbolic preview of the two nations preparing to meet in the final.

The casting connected football history with fashion’s increasingly expansive sports universe. Alcaraz, who wore a beige silk and cashmere Louis Vuitton single-breasted suit with a white shirt, brought the global reach of another elite sport, while Hoyeon, in a pink satin, braid-embroidered keyhole dress from the house’s cruise 2027 collection, reflected the borderless mix of actors, musicians and athletes now circulating through luxury campaigns and front rows. Iniesta and Kempes supplied the emotional authority of champions who had previously lifted the trophy.

“For over a decade, Louis Vuitton and FIFA have shared an unwavering commitment to excellence, bound by a shared belief in sport’s power to inspire and bring people together,” said Pietro Beccari, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton. “At its heart stands the world’s most coveted trophy — a symbol of dedication, collective ambition and the ultimate celebration of victory.”

Created at Louis Vuitton’s historic workshops in Asnières-sur-Seine, France, the trunk was covered in monogram canvas and marked by a hand-painted golden “V,” representing both “Victory” and “Vuitton.” Leather lozine borders, gold-plated brass hardware and traditional clasps referenced the house’s trunk-making heritage, while the interior was lined in light beige leather.

The trunk did more than transport the trophy. It framed its arrival, turning the opening of a case into part of the ceremony and placing Vuitton’s visual codes within one of sport’s most widely broadcast moments.

“Louis Vuitton brings a unique blend of heritage, craftsmanship and prestige to the FIFA World Cup,” said FIFA chief business officer Romy Gai. “The moment it is brought onto the pitch ahead of the final match will once again be a highlight, connecting tradition with the pinnacle of modern football.”

Louis Vuitton has created World Cup Trophy Trunks since 2010, accompanying the competition through editions in South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Qatar. For 2026, the house expanded its role as an official FIFA supplier and branded licensee and introduced three limited-edition trunks inspired by the trophy case, including two watch trunks and a Malle Courrier.

The partnership reflects how luxury’s relationship with sport has moved beyond dressing athletes. Fashion houses are building themselves into the rituals surrounding competition — carrying trophies, outfitting teams and shaping the imagery through which victories are remembered.

Spain’s victory created an unusually complete fashion moment for LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. The national team entered the tournament with an official wardrobe designed by Loewe creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez and ended it lifting a trophy delivered in a Louis Vuitton trunk.
