Stage 18 covers 185.2 kilometers from Voiron to Orcières-Merlette and features 3,900 meters of elevation gain across five categorized climbs, culminating with the Category 1 ascent to Orcières-Merlette (7.1 km at 6.7%). While the final climb is not the steepest of the Tour, the accumulated climbing and altitude make it a significant test, especially with two more mountain stages, including back-to-back finishes at Alpe d’Huez—still to come. The stage is expected to suit climbers and aggressive breakaway specialists, though general classification contenders will also have opportunities to gain valuable time.
